It's been more than 23 years since the Internet came into widespread use and in that time the Web has seamlessly been incorporated into our daily lives. Security and privacy issues, scams, malware, phishing, and intrusive ads have also accompanied such positive features as connectedness, convenience, and entertainment. How can we navigate the line between being connected and at the same time stay safe from hacking, identity theft, and malware? In this workshop, we will review the basic practices for navigating the Web using search engines, saving/printing website pages, shopping and ordering from online sellers, renting and streaming movies, and more. We will also discover some great tips on using such social media apps as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube. We will cover important security and privacy strategies to keep our data and information safe while allowing us to confidently use the Internet in ways that enhance our lives. Participants in this class are encouraged to bring their devices to class where we will have hands-on sessions. (A limited enrollment class)
