What do accessories, artwork, area rugs and architectural details have in common? They are the defining elements that tie a room together. They have the power to either make or break the ambience of a room. They are the finishing touches in every décor and express a homeowner’s style and personality. The purpose of this course is to help participants look at art and accessories and the process of finishing a home in a whole new way. We will discuss the important principles and elements of design as they are the critical building blocks to artistically displaying traditional and contemporary artwork and accessories and learn how to correctly arrange them on tabletops and mantels, in bookcases and in niches. We will also explore how to select the right table lamps and area rugs for our décor and how to specify the correct recessed lighting for artwork. We will also discuss how to create dramatic focal points over fireplace mantels and on staircases and how to create interesting picture groupings and display important collections. A new appreciation will be gained for beautiful traditional accessories such as antique books, porcelain, china, mirrors, silver and crystal, botanical prints, and antique maps. In addition, we will learn the secrets that professional stagers and arrangers know when using flowers, foliage, fruits and vegetables to create the right traditional, transitional or contemporary look in interior design. This six week in-depth decorating course will provide class members all the knowledge needed to be able to beautifully and creatively accessorize your rooms’ taste and style and to make intelligent artistic decisions when selecting artwork and accessories for your home.
